From the 25th until the 27th of June – Enabel was present at the World of Coffee in Brussels Expo on the initiative of the Trade for Development Centre to showcase high-quality, traceable African coffee and to connect the producers behind some of Africa’s finest coffee with potential buyers.
The World of Coffee brings together producers, roasters, baristas, distributors, and buyers from around the world for three days of business networking, international competitions (barista, brewing, and latte art championships), and technical conferences. More than 14,400 coffee professionals from 142 countries walked the show floor and enjoyed new innovations and products.
Cupping session showcases samples of great quality
A successful part of Enabel’s presence at WOC was the cupping session. A buzzing B2B event: (inter)national buyers and roasters turned out in numbers to discover the exceptional flavour of premium African specialty coffee from 17 producer organisations and businesses from Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya and Ethiopia.
Feedback from the participating enterprises has been very positive! The session served as a prime commercial meeting point that sparks interest leading up to – hopefully – numerous business contacts.
Enabel’s support
Many of the participating cooperatives have received Enabel’s support in business development, quality improvement, financial management and export readiness.
- In Uganda, Enabel’s programme is strengthening the competitiveness of the coffee sector to create more job opportunities for youth and women.
- At the same time, Enabel’s Trade for Development Centre coaching programme focuses on connecting African producer organisations with international markets.
- Other participating cooperatives were carefully selected by the African Fine Coffees Association (AFCA), a Ugandan business support organisation which itself benefits from TDC’s funding to better support local businesses.
